Amy Hancock is a professional freelance writer with a talent for creating imaginative and effective copy and communication materials for multiple medias including: radio, print, web, and social media marketing platforms.
After completing the Radio and Television Arts (Radio) Diploma with honours at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2004, she started writing advertising and promotional copy for 97.7 CKFM in Olds, Alberta.
It wasn’t long before her knack for writing original and persuasive copy landed her back in Edmonton as the Creative Director of Touch Canada Broadcasting, then a network of 3 radio stations: 105.9 Shine FM Edmonton, AM 930 CJCA Edmonton, and 88.9 Shine FM Calgary. She worked in this position from November 2004-November 2006 and then again from October 2009-April 2011. In 2009 the network had grown to include 96.3 Shine FM Grande Prairie.
Responsibilities included managing a create department consisting of all four radio stations, writing all on-air radio advertisements and promotional scripts for commercial and non-profit clients, developing station imaging, assisting with station marketing and working closely with the sales team to provide them with “spec” campaigns and sales strategies.
Amy Hancock’s freelance career started in 2005, working on side projects as a freelance writer. Contracts included radio advertisements, campaigns and on-air promotional material for independent radio companies and production houses in Western Canada, developing company newsletters and mail outs, and providing copy for pamphlets and brochures.
In 2009 Amy became involved with Tourism Ucluelet, a tourism marketing organization on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and held that contract until 2012. This contract included developing and executing social media marketing strategies (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube), writing and publishing a regular Travel Blog, writing newsletters, marketing copy for mail outs, signage and brochures. It also includes writing ad-copy for print marketing materials, writing web content, and editorial for local Vancouver Island publications.
This contract kick-started a career as a full time freelance writer and a multi-media communications specialist, and she has been providing professional communication services for over 10 years. As the way audiences and consumers found their information, entertainment, and made buying decisions so did her professional career in marketing, advertising, and communications. Much of her days are filled writing web content, managing content management systems for clients, writing blogs for businesses and marketing organizations through social media.
